Fertility Consultation:

'In 2010, my wife and I were having difficulty conceiving and I attended Mr. Keane on my GP's recommendation to have my sperm count tested. The count turned out to be very low. Mr. Keane met with us and talked us through all of our fertility treatment options. He also suggested that treatment might raise the sperm count and recommended a specialist to perform the treatment. The result of this treatment was a dramatic improvement in sperm count, and to our delight my wife is now pregnant by natural means. Without the treatment, there would have been an extremely low probability of this happening. During the very difficult period between the first test result and the confirmation of our pregnancy, Mr. Keane met with us on a number of occasions to give advice and help. He also, at our request, gave us a lot of advice on our options for other fertility treatments in the event that my sperm count did not increase.

We both feel extremely happy, lucky and grateful to have received help which has made such a difference to our lives. We owe so much happiness to Mr. Keane (and to the other specialist whom he recommended). I could not recommend Dr Keane highly enough. In particular, we were extremely impressed by the following characteristics that Mr. Keane showed at all times:

1. Expertise: Even to a layperson, it is clear that you are dealing with someone who is an outstanding expert in the field of embryonics and reproduction generally with a vast store of experience and knowledge. The detail, precision and breadth of knowledge which he displays, not only in relation to the medical procedures but also in advising on the choice of hospitals and practitioners, is fantastic. I had total confidence in every piece of information which he gave us.

2. Empathy and compassion: This was almost as important to us as Mr. Keane's expertise. A few medical professionals who I have dealt with have had terrible "people skills". Most have been good. Dr Keane, however, really stands out. His way of dealing with his patients is quiet, calm, sensitive and understanding. It is clear that he always cares about the patient's happiness and understands the patient's feelings. He is a great listener and always takes time to consider the patient's preferences and tries to come to a solution which will make them comfortable. He also addresses all the patient's questions and concerns very thoroughly and with an enormous amount of patience. He also shows an awareness of the costs of treatment to  patients and tries to ensure that the solutions chosen represent good value to the patient.

3. Responsiveness and generosity with his time: I have found most medical professionals who I have dealt with in the past to be reponsive, but none of them has been anything like as responsive as Dr Keane. He always responds to calls and emails on the same day. He is very generous with his time and always followed up on our questions even when we were not in a consultation with him. When we were in a consultation, we never felt in any way pressurised for time and we were always made to feel free that we could ask questions for as long as we liked.

4. Communication skills: Mr. Keane is also a brilliant communicator. He explains everything with perfect clarity and gives his patients a marvellous understanding. He also discusses everything in detail and responds to questions in detail, and it is immediately evident that he has the confidence that comes from knowing his subject inside out - he never gives a vague answer.

5. He gets results! We can't thank him enough for what he has helped us achieve.'

Donor Sperm Therapy

'I approached Mr. Declan Keane in January 2011 as a single woman of 40 who wished to have a child. He immediately put me at ease with what I saw as a very unorthodox request. It was also good to learn that there are others in my situation. The entire team at Repromed is compassionate and understanding. Declan himself is always accessible and will let you contact him by mobile phone to answer any questions. He will explain the sourcing of a donor and all that is involved with the procedure. I am now at the very early stages of pregnancy after two attempts so the rest is in the hands of nature!'
